Isaac Partridge is an Inuk/Mohawk/Scottish visual artist working in drawing and textiles. He has lived and worked in Norway, and he is currently based in Ontario where he works as an artist assistant for his mother who is also a visual artist.
About the Love drawing, he writes, “My twin and I were alone with our family living far away, and these two little sweethearts became our family, ones we return home to eagerly. Especially during a pandemic, feeling like I have no community and very isolated, these two love us unconditionally and without judgment, and the grin in the drawing expresses the happiness I feel with them. Takos and Fluffy are rays of light in a dark time.” Concerning the other pieces, he explains: “I have never had the experience of seal hunting, but through drawing, I can live out my wish and dream of being able to. I cope with missing these experiences on the land by expressing it through drawing. The ptarmigan one represents missing my Partridge family in Kuujjuaq (named after ptarmigans), and I added ground juniper because I find it a beautiful plant of Nunavik. I haven’t been able to go back to Kuujjuaq for many years now, and I feel connected by drawing ptarmigans, representing my family.”
